Copyright
Safeguarding Intellectual Propert
By application of the law, copyright protection is granted automatically to the creator over original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, Web sites, and architecture.
Under Maltese law, copyright protection is not afforded by registration but is granted automatically to the creator. The only requirement for Copyright protection to subsist is that the work should be given in a tangible form and that it shall be original. Once works are protected, they are not capable of being reproduced, distributed or performed without the consent of the author as otherwise an infringement can be filed and damages for unauthorised used claimed.
Copyright protection lasts throughout the life time of the author and the 70 years subsequent to his death.
